Prez Tweets Linked To His Growing Panic Over Mueller Probe, Say Political Pundits
Washington: Politics in America headed into dangerous, uncharted waters on Wednesday with US President Trump appearing to endorse charging his political adversaries — including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — with treason.
Amid an almost daily outburst against the FBI special counsel Robert Mueller, who has been probing charges of Russian interference and collusion that purportedly sullied his election (which Trump denies), the US president retweeted a meme from one of his supporters showing Obama, Hillary Clinton, former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, former spy chief James Clapper, former Attorney General Eric Holder among others behind bars, with the caption reading, “Now that Russia Collusion is a proven lie, when do the trials for treason begin?”
The implied threat came on the heels of Trump’s serial Twitter attack on Mueller, including calling him a “conflicted prosecutor who has gone rogue,” amid reports that the special counsel is closing in on some of President Trump’s associates, one of whom, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, is accused of lying after a plea deal.
President Trump is suggesting that Manafort is being forced to implicate him.
“While the disgusting Fake News is doing everything within their power not to report it that way, at least 3 major players are intimating that the Angry Mueller Gang of Dems is viciously telling witnesses to lie about facts & they will get relief. This is our Joseph McCarthy Era!” Trump posted on Twitter shortly before retweeting the meme on treason.
An earlier three-tweet rant on Tuesday read: “The Phony Witch Hunt continues, but Mueller and his gang of Angry Dems are only looking at one side, not the other. Wait until it comes out how horribly & viciously they are treating people, ruining lives for them refusing to lie. Mueller is a conflicted prosecutor gone rogue…The Fake News Media builds Bob Mueller up as a Saint, when in actuality he is the exact opposite. He is doing TREMENDOUS damage to our Criminal Justice System, where he is only looking at one side and not the other.”
“Heroes will come of this, and it won’t be Mueller and his… terrible Gang of Angry Democrats. Look at their past, and look where they come from. The now $30,000,000 Witch Hunt continues and they’ve got nothing but ruined lives. Where is the Server? Let these terrible people go back to the Clinton Foundation and “Justice Department!’” he added, amid speculation that he would pardon Manafort if he received a severe sentence.
The fact that the US president is questioning his own justice department and endorsing accusations of treason against its former and current officials, including deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, points to his growing panic at the direction of the Mueller probe, according to political pundits. In recent days, Trump has also railed against the Federal Reserve chairperson he himself appointed and also rained on a dire climate change report issued by his own administration.
But it is his constant denigration over the past week of FBI special counsel Robert Mueller — who is a registered Republican and who was appointed to head the FBI by President Bush — that has stood out, compelling talking heads to speculate widely why he is having a meltdown. While Mueller has virtually nailed the case against Trump associate Paul Manafort on various counts, the president and his associates say the special counsel is trying to persuade him to incriminate Trump.
